What's Cricket ?

If the answer is a creature. Please read this. If not, Do you know who is Sachin Tendulkar ? If yes, skip this part, If not please read this.

Cricket is a sport originated in England [But currently dominated by South Asian teams]. It's a team sport and there are eleven players in each team. You have a bat and ball (similar to baseball, but the shape of the bat is different.). And then you have the wicket (three vertical sticks). Actually you have two wickets situated in 22 yards distance from each other. Cricket grounds are normally round shaped or an oval. And then you have boundary lines (most of the time in the edge of the ground).

Here is the scenario of playing. Two players from batting team are in the ground (one near each wicket). One player from bowling team has the bowl and he is ready to ball from one wicket to the batsman who is in the other wicket. One player from the bowling team is behind the batting wicket, he is called the Keeper. Other nine players from the bowling team are in different parts of the ground and ready to catch the ball. The player who had the bowl bowl it to the batting wicket.

If it hits the wicket: the batsman in that wicket is out and had to return back and someone else from his team should replace him.

If the batsman hit the ball: The two batsman can run between the wickets and whenever they change the side they get one run. If batsman hit over the boundary he gets 6 runs. If it goes along the ground he gets four runs. If a player from the opposite team manage to cat the ball when it's in the air, the batsman is out.

Given above is very basic scenario and there are many ways a batsman can get out.

There are basically three versions of cricket.

Test Matches: Each team plays two innings maximum for five days. If the game doesn't finish before 5 days it becomes a draw.

One Day Matches: Each team get 50 overs (one over is six balls, so 300balls). They can score till everybody gets out of 50 overs finished. The other team has to chase their target within the same limit.

Twenty20 Matches: You have 20 overs instead of 50 overs.
